Bio:
Dr. Knight completed her undergraduate training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her medical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her residency training in a combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry program at Rush University in Chicago, and is board certified in both specialties. She also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in psychoneuroimmunology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Dr. Knight’s research program aims to investigate biological risk and interventions – both pharmacologic and behavioral – for social health disparities in cancer, specifically among hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT) and cellular therapy recipients. Her lab does this by investigating how variations in immune function based on socioeconomic status (SES) – among other social health variables including depression, stress, sleep quality, and anxiety – contribute to differential patient responses and outcomes following cancer treatments.
Her research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment, and the Laura Gralton Philanthropic Fund. Dr. Knight’s research program continues to inform the clinical field of Psycho-Oncology as we increasingly understand how stress regulates cancer progression.
